September 2 - Matthew 17:20

September 2 - Matthew 17:20

"He replied, 'Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.'"

With a pinch of salt and a dash of spice, the smallest changes can transform an ordinary dish into a delightful feast. Matthew 17:20 illustrates this concept in terms of faith, showing us that even faith as minuscule as a mustard seed can move mountains.

In our kitchens, we see the power of small things. Yeast, tiny as it is, can make dough rise. A dash of salt can bring out the flavor of a meal. Similarly, in our spiritual lives, small acts of faith can yield extraordinary results.

When faced with overwhelming obstacles, it's easy to feel as if our faith is too small. But Jesus teaches us that faith isn't about size; it's about trust. It's about trusting in a God so powerful, so mighty, that nothing is impossible for Him.

Just as the mustard seed grows into a mighty tree, so can our faith grow and develop, capable of moving the mountains in our lives. Even if your faith feels small now, remember, it's not about the size of your faith but the size of your God.

Reflective Questions:

  1. Can you think of a time when your small act of faith resulted in significant changes?
  2. What "mountains" are you facing right now that require faith, no matter how small?

Prayer:

Father, help us to understand that even if our faith is as small as a mustard seed, we can move mountains. Please strengthen our faith daily as we walk with You. Amen.
