January 8 - Psalm 130:5

"I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope."

Picture a time in the kitchen when you were waiting for a pot of soup to simmer or bread to rise. There’s an anticipatory stillness in that waiting, knowing that through patience and trust in the process, a wholesome result will be yielded. Similarly, in our spiritual walk, there are seasons of waiting, where we entrust ourselves to God's timing and put our hope in His Word.

Waiting on the Lord is an act of trust and hope. Trust, that He who promised is faithful, and hope, that His words are true and steadfast. When we wait on the Lord, it isn't a passive act but rather an active engagement with His Word. It's a time where we delve deeper into the Scriptures, reaffirming the promises He has given us, and allowing His Word to shape our thoughts, actions, and attitudes.

This form of waiting can be difficult, especially when we're facing challenges or uncertainty. It's in these moments that hope becomes crucial. By putting our hope in God's Word, we're acknowledging that He is trustworthy and that His promises hold true. Just as we know that the soup will eventually simmer and the bread will rise if we follow the recipe correctly, we can be sure that God will fulfill His promises in His perfect timing.

Reflective Questions

1. What is God teaching you in your current season of waiting?

2. How can you actively put your hope in God's word during this time?

Morning Prayer

Heavenly Father, as we wait on You, let Your Word be our guide and hope. Strengthen our faith as we trust in Your perfect timing. Amen.
