January 18 - 1 Peter 1:3

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead."

Have you ever observed a seed planted in soil? Despite being buried, it breaks through the ground, transforming into a vibrant, living plant. This is an apt image of our Christian faith, grounded in a living hope, thanks to the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Like the life-giving seed, the resurrection of Jesus Christ has sprouted a living hope within us. This is no mere wish or fleeting desire; it's a vibrant, life-transforming hope, as powerful as the tiny seed transforming into a sturdy plant. This living hope sustains us, helping us grow, bloom, and bear fruit.

Much like preparing a nourishing meal in the kitchen requires various ingredients, our living hope comprises several elements: the mercy of God, the resurrection of Jesus, and our new birth. It’s God’s great mercy that led to the sacrificial act of Jesus, His resurrection offering us a pathway to new life.

Praising God, the source of this living hope, is our joyful response. Each time we gather in our kitchens to prepare a meal, let’s remember this profound truth: Just as various ingredients contribute to the creation of a nourishing dish, different elements of our faith combine to cultivate a living, dynamic hope.

Reflective Questions

1. How does the resurrection of Jesus Christ fuel hope in your life?

2. How can you share this living hope with others in your life?

Morning Prayer

Gracious Lord, thank You for the living hope we have through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Help us to share this hope with others and praise You in all circumstances. Amen.
