December 1st - Preparing the Feast

December 1st - Preparing the Feast

Isaiah 40:3 - "Prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God."

Anticipation fills the air. As the aroma from the kitchen wafts through the house, everyone knows something special is on the way. The feast is coming, and every effort is made to ensure it's perfect. Such is the realm of our spiritual journey as well. The calling of Isaiah echoes this preparation - making straight paths, leveling the ground, and ensuring no obstacles stand in the way of the Lord’s coming.

Our hearts are the kitchens where the spiritual feast is prepared. Are there obstacles we've let linger? Are there crooked paths we've tolerated or rough places we've allowed to persist? In this Advent season, as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus and anticipate His second coming, we’re called to introspect and clear our hearts, making them pristine pathways for God.

Reflection Questions

1. What areas in my life need straightening to fully welcome God?

2. Am I genuinely preparing my heart to be a dwelling place for the Lord?

Morning Prayer

Lord, as I stand in the dawn of December, help me prepare my heart as a worthy vessel for Your presence. Make straight my paths and level every high and low place within me. Amen.
