October 24th: The Yeast of Humility

October 24th: The Yeast of Humility

Luke 14:11 - "For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."

Baking bread is almost magical. A tiny speck of yeast, when mixed with flour, can make the entire dough rise, transforming it completely. This transformative power of a seemingly insignificant ingredient mirrors the virtue of humility in our lives.

In a world that often equates loudness with strength and ostentation with success, humility might seem counterintuitive. Yet, in the kingdom of God, humility is paramount. Like yeast, it might seem small, almost invisible in the larger scheme of things, yet its impact is profound.

With self-control, we learn to check our egos, recognizing that every gift, talent, and opportunity is from above. By humbling ourselves, by understanding our place in the vast cosmos of God's creation, we position ourselves for divine elevation.

Remember, it's not in towering heights but in the quiet depths that pearls are formed. Likewise, it's in the depths of humility that our character is refined, making us more like Christ.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How do you practice humility in your daily life?
  2. Are there areas where pride has taken hold, and how can you replace it with humility?

Morning Prayer:

Dear Father, infuse my heart with genuine humility. Let me always remember that all I have and all I am is because of You. Keep my ego in check, and let Your will be my guiding light. Amen.
