October 2 – Perfectly Measured Ingredients

Galatians 5:22-23 - "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."

Consider a well-prepared dish, where every ingredient plays its part in perfect harmony. Add too much of one, and the balance is disrupted, altering the taste and perhaps spoiling the dish. Similarly, our spiritual lives require a harmonious balance of the fruits of the Spirit.

While each fruit is essential, self-control acts as the measuring spoon, ensuring we don’t tip the scales too far in one direction. It ensures our kindness does not morph into naivety or our love does not become smothering. In essence, it maintains the equilibrium that reflects the divine recipe God has envisioned for our lives.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Can you identify an area in your life where you may be "over-adding" or "under-adding" a fruit of the Spirit?
  2. How can you use self-control to find a more balanced approach in your spiritual life?

Morning Prayer:

Heavenly Father, guide me in striking the right balance in my life. Help me blend the fruits of the Spirit in perfect harmony to honor You. Amen.
