December 11th: Mixing in Trust

December 11th: Mixing in Trust

Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

Our journey with God resembles the meticulous process of following a recipe. One cannot simply ignore an ingredient and expect a perfect outcome. Trust, in this divine recipe, is indispensable. We are often prone to rely on our limited perspective, trying to navigate life's maze independently. Yet, the Creator of the universe beckons us to trust Him wholeheartedly. When we do, our otherwise convoluted path is made clear and straightforward.

An artist knows the masterpiece they intend to create from the onset. The paint strokes, colors, and techniques are all purposeful. Likewise, God is the master artist of our lives. Our understanding, tainted by temporal lenses, cannot fathom the depth and intricacy of His design. By placing our trust in Him, we allow the perfect artist to paint the canvas of our life, leading to a masterpiece only He can envision.

How many times have we tried to take the reins, only to find ourselves lost or in a mess? Our finite minds cannot grasp the infinite wisdom of God. The proverb reminds us not to lean on our flimsy understanding but to submit in trust. Submission might seem passive, but it's an active gesture of our will, deliberately choosing God's wisdom over our own.

Often, the challenge is not in starting to trust but in maintaining that trust. It's a daily, sometimes momentary, choice. Just as a chef trusts the process, even when the dish is half-baked, we must commit to trusting God, especially when life seems half-finished or unclear. The result is always worth the wait, for in His hands, our paths are made straight, and our lives find true purpose.

Reflection Questions

1. In what areas of your life are you leaning on your understanding instead of trusting God?

2. How can you actively choose to trust God more in your daily life?

Morning Prayer

Lord, today I choose to trust You with all my heart. I acknowledge my limited understanding and submit my ways to You. Guide me, mold me, and make my path straight. I desire to walk in alignment with Your will, leaning on Your wisdom and grace. Amen.
